Avery Dennison SW900 Car Wraps in South Florida

Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film SW900 is one of five wrap lines we stock, and it is the largest catalog on our floor. Our color catalog carries 150 Avery entries — 144 of them SW900, plus six Conform Chrome SF100 films that belong to a separate Avery product line. For comparison, the same catalog holds 126 colors in 3M 2080, 105 in Inozetek and 59 in Evolve. If you arrived with a specific shade of satin or a color-shift film in mind, Avery is usually the first place we look.

What follows is the film's own data rather than a brochure: how SW900 is built, what Avery warrants once the car is parked in Florida sun, which colors behave differently from the rest, and the places where 3M 2080 is honestly the better buy. Every number here comes from Avery Dennison's own SW900 product data sheet (Revision 20, dated 03/10/26) and Instructional Bulletin 1.30, or from 3M's published bulletin and warranty card.

We install it the same way we install everything else: planned before a sheet is cut, trim off where the design calls for it, panel by panel in a climate-controlled bay in Davie. Color change wraps start at $3,000, and your exact price comes out of a free inspection with the real film held against your own paint in daylight.

What SW900 actually is

SW900 is a cast vinyl film — poured and cured flat rather than squeezed through rollers — which is why it stretches into a bumper recess and stays there instead of trying to shrink back. Avery's data sheet describes it as a premium cast film for full color wrapping, built around a patented adhesive system called Easy Apply RS: the film slides on the paint before it grabs, air escapes through the liner-side structure instead of trapping into bubbles, and it stays removable for the life of the film.

Face film: 3.2 mil (80 microns) up to 4.7 mil (119 microns), depending on the color.
Adhesive: 1.2 mil (30 microns), long-term removable acrylic.
Finish, measured: gloss above 85 gloss units at 60 degrees, satin 20 to 30, matte under 15. That gap is the reason satin and matte look nothing alike in person and nearly identical on a phone screen.
Stretch: 150% elongation at break — 120% on metallics, which is exactly why metallics are less forgiving over deep curves.
Dry application only. Avery's bulletin is blunt about it: never use a wet application method on this film.
Minimum application temperature: 50°F on flat panels and simple curves, 60°F on complex curves. Service range once installed: -50°F to 180°F.

Films with a face thickness of 4 mil and above may have reduced conformability — Avery says so in the same document. That matters, and we come back to it below.

Breadth is the real argument for Avery. Here is how the SW900 catalog breaks down on our floor, with codes you can hold in your hand at the shop:

One correction people rarely get told: Avery's chrome is not SW900. The six chrome entries in our catalog — Conform Chrome Silver SF100-843-S, Conform Chrome Black SF100-196-S and the rest — are Conform Chrome SF100, a different film with its own data sheet, its own behavior and its own price. We quote it separately.

What Avery actually warrants, and what that means in Davie

Avery ties its warranty term to the film's published durability, and durability changes with two things: where the car lives, and which way the panel faces. On Avery's own United States zone map in Instructional Bulletin 1.30, Florida sits in Zone 1 — the least aggressive zone, the same as most of the country. Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii are Zone 3; Florida is not.

Zone 1 durability for SW900, vertical panels first, roof and hood second:

Black and white: 12 years vertical, 3 years horizontal.
Standard colors: 10 years vertical, 2 years horizontal.
Metallic and pearlescent, including the Rugged textures: 5 years vertical, 2 years horizontal.
ColorFlow and SW900X Extreme Textures: 4 years vertical, 1 year horizontal.
Diamond line and metallics with gold flake: 3 years vertical, 1 year horizontal.

Vertical means within 10 degrees of upright: doors, fenders, quarter panels. Your roof, hood and trunk lid are the horizontal number, and Avery calculates non-vertical panels using that horizontal figure. A gloss color that is warranted 10 years on the doors is warranted 2 years on the roof. Nobody enjoys hearing that, and you should hear it before you pay, not after.

Ten of the colors in our Avery catalog fall into the shortest 3-year band because they contain gold flake — among them Gloss Metallic Eclipse Black SW900-199-M, Gloss Metallic Radioactive Green SW900-762-M, Gloss Metallic Sand Sparkle SW900-255-M and Satin Wave Blue SW900-629-S. They are beautiful films. They are also the ones Avery stands behind for the shortest time.

Two more limits worth knowing: abrasion and loss of gloss are excluded from any Avery warranty as normal wear and tear, and the warranty is about the film cracking, lifting or failing — not about how the car looks to you at year seven. Our practical expectation for a full wrap in Florida sun with reasonable care is still 5 to 7 years across the whole vehicle.

SW900 versus 3M 2080, honestly

We install both, we have no reason to push either, and they are genuinely different tools.

Where Avery SW900 wins:

Choice. 144 SW900 colors against 126 in 3M 2080 in the same catalog, and 28 satin options against 23. If the exact shade matters, Avery finds it more often.
Published life on solid colors. In Zone 1, Avery warrants black and white for 12 years vertical and standard colors for 10. 3M's warranty card for the entire 2080 series lists 8 years vertical in Zone 1.
Conformability on standard colors. Most SW900 colors run a 3.2 mil face against 3M 2080's 3.5 mil, and Avery specifically claims best conformance in channels and deep recesses.
A wider application window. Avery allows installation down to 50°F on flat panels; 3M specifies a 65°F to 75°F application range. Irrelevant inside our climate-controlled bay, but it tells you how forgiving the adhesive is.

Where 3M 2080 wins:

One warranty number, not seven. 3M's card lists 8 years vertical and 3 years horizontal in Zone 1 for the 2080 series, with no shorter separate line for metallics or color-flip films. Avery drops to 5 years on metallics, 4 on ColorFlow and 3 on Diamond and gold-flake colors. If you want a metallic or a color shift, 3M's paperwork is simply stronger.
Roof and hood coverage. 3 years horizontal against Avery's 2 years on standard colors — and horizontal panels are exactly what people wrap on a partial job.
A protective layer during installation. 3M's gloss and high gloss colors carry a clear protective film that stays on through the install and reduces surface impressions and scratching. SW900 has no equivalent, so its gloss surface is exposed to tools the whole time.
Mirror gloss. 3M claims its high gloss colors deliver 250% better reflected image quality than a typical premium cast wrap film. On a car that is meant to look wet, that is the film to compare against.

Short version: for a solid gloss, satin or matte color change on a whole car, SW900 gives you more choice and a longer published life. For metallics, color-flip films and roof-and-hood work, 3M 2080 carries the better warranty.

The colors that need a conversation first

Not every SW900 behaves like the rest of the catalog, and these are the ones we flag at the consult:

The thick reds. Gloss Cardinal Red SW900-433-O, Gloss Carmine Red SW900-436-O, Gloss Red SW900-415-O, Gloss Soft Red SW900-427-O and Satin Carmine Red SW900-438-O all run 4.2 mil, and Avery states films at 4 mil and above may have reduced conformability. The Rugged textures run 4.5 mil; the Diamond line runs 5.4 to 5.7 mil. On a car with deep bumper recesses, that changes the plan.
Matte and satin care. Avery warns that matte finishes are subject to extreme color and gloss shift when exposed to cleaners, wax and polish. A matte wrap is not a gloss wrap with a different look; it is a different maintenance routine.
Metallics are directional. Metallic, pearlescent and ColorFlow films shift in appearance depending on which way the sheet was pulled off the roll, so we keep one orientation across the whole car and use a single production lot per vehicle. Reordering mid-job can land a visibly different panel.
Opacity. Avery lists specific colors that are less than fully opaque — several yellows, oranges and a few reds and pearls. On a dark car, the paint underneath can influence the final shade. We check your color against that list before quoting.
Lettering and graphics. Avery does not recommend sign cutting letters and graphics in SW900. For business branding and vehicle lettering we specify a different film.

Coatings, washing and removal

Wash requirements are written into the data sheet, not left to interpretation. Avery calls for cleaning products that are free of abrasives, pH balanced between 5 and 9, and free of alcohol, acids, ammonia, chlorine, glycol ethers, harmful detergents, petroleum distillates and phosphates.

Then there is the part almost nobody mentions. Avery states that products containing petroleum distillates or solvents such as soaps, waxes or protective coatings void any warranty. 3M is equally direct on 2080: coatings and other aftermarket additions, ceramic coatings explicitly included, are excluded from the MCS warranty. A ceramic coating over a wrap makes washing dramatically easier and helps satin and matte hold up — and it is a trade against the film manufacturer's warranty. We tell you that before the film goes on, and you decide.

On removal, Avery defines clean removability as less than 20% adhesive residue using proper heat and chemical methods, for the length of the durability period. It does not warrant removal from automotive paint more than five years old, from non-OEM paint, from improperly cured paint, or from oxidized or chalked surfaces. If your car has been resprayed or the paint is aged, that is a real risk and we inspect for it before we wrap — which is the whole point of the free inspection.

How many years does Avery warrant SW900 in Florida?

Florida sits in Zone 1 on Avery Dennison's own United States zone map, which is the least aggressive zone. In Zone 1, SW900 black and white is rated 12 years on vertical panels, standard colors 10 years, metallic and pearlescent 5 years, ColorFlow and Extreme Textures 4 years, and the Diamond line and gold-flake metallics 3 years. Avery ties the warranty term to that durability figure. Abrasion and loss of gloss are excluded as normal wear.

Does the Avery warranty change if I only wrap the roof or the hood?

Yes, and it drops sharply. Avery warrants vertical panels — doors, fenders, quarters — at the full published figure, and calculates roof, hood and trunk using the horizontal number. In Zone 1 that is 3 years on black and white, 2 years on standard colors and metallics, and 1 year on ColorFlow, Extreme Textures, Diamond and gold-flake colors. A gloss color rated 10 years on your doors is rated 2 years on your roof.

Is Avery SW900 better than 3M 2080?

For a solid gloss, satin or matte color change, SW900 gives you more choice — 144 colors against 126 in our catalog — and a longer published vertical life, 10 to 12 years in Zone 1 against 3M's 8. For metallics, color-flip films and horizontal panels, 3M 2080 is stronger: one 8-year vertical warranty across the whole series where Avery drops to 5, 4 or 3 years, plus a clear protective layer on gloss colors during installation. We stock both and quote both.

Can I put a ceramic coating over an Avery wrap?

Physically yes, and it makes washing much easier, especially on satin and matte. But be clear on the trade: Avery states that products containing petroleum distillates or solvents such as soaps, waxes or protective coatings void the film warranty, and 3M explicitly excludes ceramic coatings from its MCS warranty on 2080. We explain that before installation so the choice is yours, not a surprise.

Is Avery's chrome film the same as SW900?

No. The chrome films are Conform Chrome SF100 — a separate Avery product line with its own data sheet, its own installation behavior and its own pricing. We carry six Conform Chrome colors alongside the 144 SW900 colors, and we quote them separately because they are not the same film.

What is the best ceramic coating?

How do you remove a paint scratch?

It starts with assessing the scratch. Next comes machine polishing — a dual-action polisher with a foam pad and the right cut compound, worked slowly in a crosshatch pattern, then wiped down with a paint-safe microfiber towel. What is PPF?

Paint protection film, also known as clear bra, clear wrap, or paint shield, is a transparent yet resilient film applied seamlessly to your vehicle’s exterior. PPF effectively shields your car’s paint from a variety of hazards, including bird droppings, UV-ray exposure, bug splatters, as well as chips and scratches caused by road debris and rocks. How long does PPF last?

Paint protection film typically lasts five to ten years or more. Three things decide it: the quality of the film, the quality of the installation, and how you maintain the car afterward. It's not install-and-forget — regular washes with PPF-friendly products keep it looking new, and an annual professional inspection makes sure every panel stays fully covered and protected. Always go to an experienced installer whose film comes with a warranty. PPF isn't forever, but with the right maintenance it's the best way to keep your vehicle looking like new.

Can you ceramic coat over PPF?

Yes — and we highly recommend it. If you know you won't be washing the car every month, adding a ceramic coating on top of your paint protection film buys you time and protection. PPF alone is excellent against physical damage like rock chips; a ceramic coating adds a glossy, hard barrier that also handles chemical damage — especially acidic contaminants like bird droppings that can etch the paint if left too long. Together, film plus coating gives you the most complete, lowest-maintenance protection.

How is it different from premium Ceramic Pro PPF?

Which package should a daily driver get?

Vinyl wrap or PPF color change — which should I choose?

Colored PPF (Ceramic Pro SHIFT) gives you color AND rock-chip protection in one film — it costs more than vinyl but does two jobs. Vinyl wrap offers far more colors and finishes at a lower price. Is a wrap better than repainting my car?

For most drivers, yes. A wrap is reversible — your factory paint stays untouched underneath, which matters for resale value and factory finish. It installs in days, not weeks, and when you want the next look you remove or swap it. A respray is permanent, and on a healthy factory finish it usually lowers the car’s value rather than raising it.

How long does a car wrap last in Florida?

Quality film professionally installed lasts 5–7 years in Florida with reasonable care. Garage parking and hand washing extend it; harsh sun exposure and automatic car washes shorten it. Adding a ceramic coating on top of the wrap makes washing easier and helps the finish last.

Does a wrap damage my paint?

No — it protects it. The vinyl shields the factory paint from UV and light abrasion the entire time it is on the car. On healthy factory paint, removal is clean. That is why wrapped cars often resell better: the original paint has been covered the whole time.

What is a chrome delete?

A chrome delete wraps the factory chrome trim — window surrounds, grille accents, badges — in gloss or satin black for a cleaner, more modern look. It is one of the most popular partial wrap services we do, and it is fully reversible.

Can I wrap just the roof, mirrors or accents?

What is window tint VLT (visible light transmission)?

Window tint darkness is measured as VLT — visible light transmission, the percentage of light let through your windows. The lower the number, the darker the tint: 5% is very dark, 50% lets about half the light through, and films range from about 5% up to 80%. One thing most people don't know: clear automotive glass already measures around 70–75% VLT on its own, so the legal reading is the combination of your glass plus the film. Every state has different legal limits, so check your local laws before choosing a shade.

Is ceramic tint better than regular tint?

Window tint is about more than looks — it's comfort, protection and efficiency. Ceramic tint is a top-tier film: it blocks up to 99% of UV rays, rejects solar heat without darkening your visibility, won't fade or change color over time, and causes zero signal interference. Regular dyed or metallic films are more budget-friendly and still block some heat and UV, but they can fade, discolor, and interfere with cell or GPS signal. Ceramic costs more upfront but delivers the best performance and saves you money long term.

How long does ceramic window tint last?

A quality ceramic film lasts a very long time — often backed by a lifetime warranty. The difference is the warranty and the film quality: cheap big-box or DIY films typically last only one to two years and rarely carry a warranty. To maximize its life, have it professionally installed and clean it regularly with ammonia-free products. Ceramic tint is still a thin film that can be damaged — if it is, it still works but may need replacing for looks. For its heat rejection and clarity, it's well worth it.

What should I do after getting my windows tinted?

A few simple steps: don't roll your windows down for three to five days (48 hours is usually enough on hot days) so the film doesn't shift or peel. It's normal to see water pockets, small bubbles, haziness or an orange-peel texture at first — that's the adhesive curing and bonding to the glass, and it clears up on its own. When you clean, use a soft microfiber towel and an ammonia-free cleaner; ammonia and harsh chemicals damage the film. Keep it simple and gentle.
