Can you ceramic coat over PPF?

Yes — and we highly recommend it. If you know you won't be washing the car every month, adding a ceramic coating on top of your paint protection film buys you time and protection. PPF alone is excellent against physical damage like rock chips; a ceramic coating adds a glossy, hard barrier that also handles chemical damage — especially acidic contaminants like bird droppings that can etch the paint if left too long. Together, film plus coating gives you the most complete, lowest-maintenance protection.

Why the film wants a coating on top

PPF's topcoat is what self-heals and what keeps the film clear. It is also what takes the UV, the love-bug acid and the sprinkler minerals. A ceramic coating bonded to the topcoat takes those hits instead. The film stays clearer for longer, and water, dust and bugs slide off the way they do on coated paint.

Does it stop the film from self-healing?

No. The coating is a few microns thick and flexible; the healing happens in the urethane underneath and works exactly the same through it. What you lose is nothing. What you gain is a car that washes in ten minutes.

What we use

Ceramic Pro coatings formulated for film, applied after the install has cured. It is the same Ceramic Pro chemistry we put on paint, chosen for the film's topcoat. We include a $549 Ceramic Pro coating at no charge with every Full Front (from $1,799) and Full Body (from $4,990) install, and coat the uncovered panels at the same time so the whole car behaves the same in a wash.

What is the downside of PPF?
Three real downsides: the price, the fact that a bad install shows (edges, dirt, stretch marks), and that it is not permanent. Everything else you read about yellowing and peeling is a cheap-film or cheap-installer problem, not a PPF problem. Full answer →
Is it cheaper to wrap or PPF a car?
A color-change wrap is usually cheaper than full-body PPF, but they do different jobs. Wrap changes the color and gives light protection for five to seven years. PPF is clear, twice as thick, self-heals, and stops rock chips for ten years or more. Full answer →
Is matte PPF better than a matte wrap?
For a car you drive, yes. Matte PPF is twice as thick, self-heals and does not stain the way matte vinyl does. Matte wrap is cheaper and wins only if you want a specific color the film does not come in. Full answer →
