Why is PPF so expensive?

Where the money actually goes

• Labor is most of it. A Full Front is a full day (2-3 days). Badges come off, mirror caps come off, the bumper edges get wrapped so nothing shows. A full body is several days of the same.
• The film. Ceramic Pro Urban and Ceramic Pro PPF are aliphatic polyurethane with a self-healing topcoat and a 10-year to lifetime warranty. A roll costs what it costs. Cheap PVC "PPF" yellows in a Florida summer.
• The bay. Film is installed wet and every speck of dust that lands during install is there for ten years. Our bay is closed and climate-controlled, and the car stays inside from drop-off to pick-up.
• The warranty. A written manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking and delamination is only worth something from an installer who is still around to honor it.

What a $600 "full front" is

Pre-cut kit, edges not wrapped, bumper installed with the badges still on, in an open shop. It looks fine the day you pick it up. Six months later the edges have a dirt line, the corners are lifting at the headlight and the film has a yellow cast. Removing it and doing it properly costs more than doing it right the first time.

How to pay less without paying twice

Cover less, not worse. Partial Front from $899 covers the bumper and headlights, which take most of the hits. Add the hood, fenders and mirrors later as Full Front if you decide the car is a keeper. Same film, same install, same warranty, staged.
