Is it cheaper to wrap a car vs. painting?

A quality wrap is usually cheaper than a quality respray, and much faster: days instead of weeks. Cheap paint exists, but it looks cheap and lowers resale; a wrap comes off and leaves the factory paint. For a color change, wrap almost always wins.

Cost and time

A full color-change wrap in branded film: low-to-mid thousands for a sedan, a few days in the bay. A quality respray that matches factory finish: more than that, with the car gone for weeks, and it still shows on a vehicle history report.

Quality

Cheap paint has orange peel, overspray and mismatched panels. Cheap wrap has seams and lifted edges. Good versions of both look like factory. The difference is that a good wrap is achievable in days.

Reversibility and resale

A wrap comes off and the factory paint is there, preserved. A respray is permanent and, unless it was done for a reason, buyers assume it hides something.

When paint is the right answer

Failing clear coat, body damage, a restoration. Vinyl needs sound paint under it; it cannot fix paint. In that case: repair and paint, then wrap or PPF over the new paint once it has cured.

Our approach

How much does it cost to chrome delete a Tesla Model 3?
A Model 3 chrome delete covers the window trim, door handles, side-camera housings and sometimes the mirror caps and badges, in satin or gloss black film. It is a few hours of precise work and typically costs a few hundred dollars; we quote on the car. Full answer →
How long does a chrome delete last?
Five to seven years in Florida sun with branded cast film and proper washing, the same as any wrap. The window trim is the part that fails first if the install was rushed, because the curves are tight and the edges are exposed to brushes and squeegees. Full answer →
How long do car wraps last vs paint?
Paint, protected, lasts the life of the car. A wrap lasts five to seven years in Florida sun, then comes off and the original paint is underneath, preserved. A wrap is a finish you rent; paint is one you own. Full answer →
