Bad paint that can be wrapped
- Oxidized, faded, dull paint: decontaminated and lightly polished, then wrapped.
- Swirls and light scratches: the film hides them completely.
- Rock chips: filled and leveled first, or they show as dimples through the vinyl.
- A previous respray that has cured fully and is sound.
Bad paint that cannot
- Peeling or flaking clear coat. Vinyl adheres to the top layer; when that layer is letting go, the wrap lifts and takes it along.
- Bubbling from rust underneath.
- Fresh paint that has not fully cured.
What shows through
Texture. Vinyl is thin and follows every dimple, chip and sanding mark. Prep is not optional; it is the difference between a wrap that looks painted and one that looks wrapped.
The honest path
We inspect the paint before quoting. If it needs body work, we say so, and wrap or PPF goes on after the repair has cured.
