Why wheels are the best surface to coat
Brake dust is hot metal particles that embed in bare or clear-coated wheels and then oxidize. On a coated wheel they cannot embed; they rinse off. The difference is scrubbing barrels with a brush every wash versus rinsing them with a hose.

- Polishing if the finish needs it.

Cost

How long it lasts
Wheels take more heat and abrasion than paint, so expect a shorter life than the paint coating. The annual maintenance detail tops it up.
