Wax is a soft layer that sits on top of the paint and washes off in weeks. A ceramic coating bonds to the clear coat and becomes a hard layer that lasts years. Wax is maintenance; coating is protection.

Why wax loses in Florida
Wax melts. Carnauba softens in the 90s and a hood in July runs past 150°F. Whatever is left washes off in the afternoon rain. Meanwhile the sun is doing its work on the paint. A coating does not care about the temperature and keeps blocking UV for years.
Can you wax over a coating?
You can, but there is no reason to. Wax fills the coating's surface, dulls the hydrophobics and streaks. If you want more gloss, a maintenance detail with a coating topper does more and lasts longer.
When wax still makes sense
A car you are selling next month. A show car you enjoy waxing. Otherwise, a Ceramic Pro Sport coating costs about what a year of good wax does and does the job properly.
