What it does
- Rain beads and runs off above about 40 mph, often without wipers.
- Bugs, bird droppings and sprinkler spots wipe off instead of etching.
- Better visibility at night in the rain; less glare from a dirty windshield.
- Side windows and mirrors stay clearer between washes.
What it does not do
It does not stop rock chips or cracks; that is windshield protection film, from $799. It does not tint. And it does not last as long on the windshield as a paint coating lasts on paint, because wipers abrade it: expect about a year on the windshield, longer on side glass.
How it is applied
Glass is decontaminated, polished if it has water-spot etching, and coated by hand. Old wiper blades scratch a fresh coating; we recommend replacing them at the same time.
