What destroys ceramic coating?

Abrasion and harsh chemistry. Automatic brush washes, aggressive polishing, strong degreasers, wheel acids and fallout removers left to dwell all wear a coating down. Left-on contamination does the rest: bird droppings, love bugs and sprinkler minerals baked in the sun.

Contamination left on

Bird droppings, love-bug residue and tree sap are acidic; sprinkler water leaves minerals. On a coating they sit on top instead of etching the paint, but baked in the sun for days they bond and dull the surface. Rinse them within a day.

What does not destroy it

Rain, sun, road salt in the amounts Florida sees, pH-neutral soap, touchless washes, pressure washers at a foot or more. A coating is a hard, inert layer; it is the abrasion and the acids that get it.

Keeping the warranty

Ceramic Pro warranties require an annual maintenance detail: decontamination, inspection, top-up. It keeps the coating at full strength and the paperwork valid.

Should a new car be ceramic coated or not?
Yes, and early. New paint needs the least correction and has the most to lose. A coating in the first weeks keeps it at delivery condition; a coating after a year of brush washes seals in a year of swirls. Full answer →
Can you pressure wash a ceramic coated car?
Yes. A pressure washer is one of the best tools for a coated car: most dirt lifts off with water alone. Keep the nozzle a foot or more from the paint, use a fan tip, and stay off edges of any film. Foam, rinse, dry. Full answer →
Can I run my ceramic coated car through a car wash?
Touchless, yes. Brush or cloth automatic washes, no: they abrade the coating and shorten its life more than anything else you can do. If you must use an automatic, choose touchless and skip the spray wax option. Full answer →
Do ceramic coatings need maintenance?
Yes, but less than the paint did. Proper washing, contamination removed within a day, and an annual Ceramic Maintenance Detail that decontaminates, inspects and tops up the coating. The annual detail is also what keeps the Ceramic Pro warranty valid. Full answer →
