How much does it cost to repair a headlight?

Restoring a hazed lens is a few hundred dollars and lasts a season or two; replacing a modern LED headlight assembly runs from several hundred to a few thousand. The cheapest headlight repair is the one you never need: clear film on the lens before it pits.

Restoration

Wet sanding, polishing and a new UV clear on the lens. Usually $150 to $300 per pair. It works on hazed, yellowed lenses. The catch: the factory UV coating is gone, and without a durable new one the lens hazes again within a year or two in Florida sun.

Replacement

Halogen assemblies on older cars: a couple of hundred each. LED and matrix headlights on current cars: $800 to $2,500 or more per side, plus aiming and sometimes coding. Insurance does not cover wear.

Why we do not sell restorations

We protect lenses so they do not need one. Clear paint protection film on the headlight takes the pitting and blocks the UV that hazes the plastic. Headlights are included in every PPF package from Partial Front at $899. On a car that already has hazed lenses, restoration followed by film is the only version that lasts.

The order of operations

New car: film now. Hazed lenses: restore, then film. Cracked or pitted through: replace, then film.

How long does a full detail usually take?
Half a day to a full day. Exterior decontamination and a safe wash are two to three hours; a thorough interior is two to four; protection adds an hour and cure time. A detail that takes an hour is a wash with dressing. Full answer →
What does a full interior detail include?
Everything you touch and everything you see: vacuum including seams and under seats, steam on hard surfaces, leather cleaned and conditioned, plastics and vents, carpets and mats, glass inside, and a protectant that does not shine or attract dust. Full answer →
How much should a full detail be?
For a real detail, exterior decontamination plus a thorough interior plus protection, expect a few hundred dollars by vehicle size. Our maintenance packages start at $300. Anything under $150 is a wash with dressing, and anything with "lifetime" in the name is a sealant. Full answer →
Are car detailers worth it?
A good one, yes: they do things a car wash cannot, like decontaminating paint, correcting it, and protecting it, and they do the interior without silicone. A bad one adds swirls and charges for shine. The difference is the process, not the price. Full answer →
