Why windshields are worth protecting now
A windshield used to be glass. Now it carries the forward camera, rain sensors, heating elements and the mounting for driver-assist systems, and replacing it means recalibrating all of them. Insurance covers some of it; the deductible, the recalibration and the week without the car are yours.
What the film does
- Absorbs the impact of gravel and road debris that would chip or star the glass.
- Blocks 99.9% of UV.
- Optically clear: no tint, no distortion, no effect on cameras.
- Wipers run on it normally; the film is engineered for it.
Cost and lifespan
From $799 installed, quoted by windshield size and curvature. Expect a few years of life before the film has taken enough hits to be replaced; it is a sacrificial layer by design and it costs a fraction of the glass it protects.
Film versus tint versus coating
Protection film goes on the outside and stops impacts. Tint goes on the inside and rejects heat. Ceramic Pro Glass is a coating that makes rain bead. They do different jobs and stack.
