What Tesla offers
Nothing on the paint beyond the factory clear coat. Tesla's own aftermarket store has sold accessories like all-weather mats and sometimes a "paint protection" kit, but no professional coating or film service. Delivery centers occasionally point owners to nearby shops.
What Tesla paint needs
- Correction. Tesla paint routinely arrives with swirls and buffer trails from the delivery prep. A coating over them locks them in.
- A coating. The paint is thin and soft; UV, love bugs and sprinklers etch it faster than most. Ceramic Pro packages from $499 on corrected paint.
- Film on the front. Chips on the bumper and hood are the number one Tesla complaint. Full Front PPF is $1,999 on a Model 3 and $2,199 on a Model Y, and includes a $549 Ceramic Pro coating.
Timing
The first two weeks. Before the first automatic wash, before the first highway trip. New paint is the easiest to correct and the most worth protecting.
Warranty
Coatings and film do not affect Tesla's warranty. They are removable layers on the paint.
