Is it worth it to tint your car?

In South Florida, yes, if it is ceramic. Tint blocks up to 99% of UV, cuts the heat that ages the interior and runs the AC, reduces glare, and adds privacy. Dyed film gives you the look and little else; ceramic gives you the comfort.

What tint does for a car here

What is not worth it

Dyed film. It darkens the glass, rejects little heat, fades purple and bubbles in a few summers, and then costs more to remove than it cost to install.

What we install

KAVACA Ultimate IR, Ceramic Pro's nano-ceramic film. Non-metallic, no signal interference, does not fade, manufacturer warranty. Side windows from $99 each, cut to Florida-legal shades per window.

The legal shades

28% front sides, 15% rear on sedans, 6% rear on SUVs, a strip above the AS-1 line on the windshield. Ceramic at legal shades outperforms illegal dyed film on heat.

What are the downsides of tinted windows?
Reduced night visibility if you go too dark, a ticket if you go darker than Florida allows, and with cheap film, purple fade and bubbles within a few years. Ceramic film at a legal shade removes the first three; the fourth is a film-quality problem. Full answer →
What is the best windshield protector film for my car?
A professional-grade exterior windshield protection film, installed by a shop, from $799. The consumer films sold online are thinner, hard to install without distortion, and rarely rated for wiper use. Ours is optically clear, camera-safe and warrantied. Full answer →
How much is a windshield tint ticket in Florida?
Illegal tint in Florida is a non-moving violation. The fine is set by the county and usually runs around $100 to $130 with court costs, and officers can require the film to be removed. Windshield tint below the AS-1 line is illegal without a medical exemption. Full answer →
Is a 70% windshield tint worth it?
Yes, if it is ceramic. A 70% IR-rejecting film looks almost clear, is legal in most states above the AS-1 line and in many below it, and blocks the infrared heat that comes through the largest piece of glass on the car. In Florida, full-windshield tint needs a medical exemption. Full answer →
